United Civil Servants Association hosting first annual "Comedy Night" on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 7:00pm-11:00pm at Iberia's Restaurant (Crystal Room). $75 per person includes Open Bar cocktail hour from 7:00-8:00 and then beer,wine,sangria and soda along with buffet dinner and dessert table and show. Guys, The 2013 "Blaze on the Beach" is in view and coming up quickly. As most may already know, the date is Friday, July 12, 2013 FROM NOON TILL 5PM. Even more importantly, as most may know, Donovan's Reef, our "Blaze" home for the past 13 years, is no more. Hurricane Sandy has left it nothing more than a pile of sand. Although the owners of Donovan's assured us back in December that they would be up and running by Memorial Day, things change. Some group made them an offer they couldn't refuse and they sold. So after a couple months of searching for the perfect Blaze location, we listened to a lot of the guys who come every year and where they would love to have the event. After Jenks and Tiki both made us feel "unwelcome", the folks at Bar A in Belmar rolled out the red carpet for us. So, our new Blaze location (at least for this year) will be Bar Anticipation in Belmar. A couple of changes for this year: Bar A offers a 5 hour open bar, instead of 4 with BBQ for all 5 hours as well starting at NOON. Parking situation is considerably better. It has always been a RAIN OR SHINE event but Bar A can be completely under large tents in event of bad weather. Price at door is now $60 since there are NO places that could give us the price that Donovan's locked us into for all those years. T-shirts again available soon, same price as always $12, blue, gray and pink. Like last year, $2 from every pink tee sold will be donated to Breast Cancer Research. Last year, we raised nearly $700 for this cause in the name of Newark Fire Blaze on the Beach. 50/50's will also be available around the same time as the tees sometime in mid-April. $10 each.
